Fair question. We make money from two things, both out in the open: a flat £1 commission on manual trades, and a small margin on the interest your uninvested cash earns. That's it. Your currency conversions are passed through at a near-cost 0.01% — we don't profit from marking up FX — and we don't lend your shares, sell your data, or hide costs in the spread. We keep our business lean and our pricing transparent — and we believe that's more sustainable than tricking people with 'free' trading.

Your investments are held in segregated accounts with top-tier banks, completely separate from Abervest's own corporate funds. The platform is designed to operate within the FSCS scheme, which covers up to £85,000 at authorised firms — though as a demonstration platform, Abervest isn't yet an authorised firm, so FSCS protection doesn't currently apply. We don't do commission-free — and here's why. Platforms that offer 'free' trading typically make money in ways that aren't obvious: lending your shares to short sellers, marking up FX rates, or pushing you toward risky products. We charge a small, transparent fee per trade instead. You'll always know exactly what you're paying.

Absolutely. We handle the whole transfer process for you. Open an account, let us know you want to transfer, and we'll contact your current provider. Most transfers complete within 2–4 weeks, and we don't charge exit fees on our side. Your investments keep their tax-free status throughout.
